Naredni Koraci
Nakon uspešno realizovanog prvog skupa u Piranu, sledeći koraci u SIESsail projektu podrazumevaju implementaciju stečenih znanja i iskustava u radu svakog kluba.
From February 21 to 23, 2025, the Ada Sailing Club, as a partner in the international SIESsail project, participated in the first gathering held in Piran. SIESsail is an initiative focused on improving sailing education, increasing accessibility to the sport, and promoting inclusion and sustainability in sailing across Europe. The event brought together representatives of sailing clubs from Slovenia, Italy, Estonia, and Serbia, as well as representatives of the Society for Culture of Inclusion from Ljubljana, to exchange experiences in person for the first time and contribute to the further implementation of the project.
Objectives of the SIESsail Initiative
SIESsail is a project that connects sailing clubs and organizations with the goal of promoting sailing as a sport accessible to everyone, regardless of age, physical abilities, or prior experience. The gathering highlighted key objectives: improving education, fostering environmental responsibility, and enhancing accessibility to sailing for individuals with reduced physical and intellectual abilities. Additionally, discussions were held on organizing various workshops aimed at raising educational standards for instructors and enabling a broader audience to engage in the sport.
Activities
On this occasion, participants explored Piran and visited the city’s Maritime Museum, which holds a rich nautical history from the northern Adriatic. With its impressive tradition, Piran provided the perfect setting for understanding the importance of maritime heritage, which directly reflects the sustainability of sailing through the decades.
The gathering was also marked by a lecture on ocean protection from plastic waste. Topics such as microplastics, environmental responsibility, and the future of marine ecosystem conservation sparked an intensive exchange of experiences among club representatives, who are direct witnesses to the impact of plastic pollution on rivers, lakes, and seas, as well as raising awareness of global environmental issues.
One of the key points of the event was the presentation by the Society for Culture of Inclusion from Ljubljana, which focused on inclusive sailing. Participants discussed ways to enable people with disabilities to engage in sailing, while representatives of the association shared their knowledge and experiences regarding an inclusive approach to the sport.
Practical on-water activities, which initiated the creation of an educational video database with instructions in the languages of the project’s partners, were another important segment of this first gathering in Piran. In this way, the SIESsail project will enable long-term education across Europe.
Next Steps
After the successful completion of the first gathering in Piran, the next steps in the SIESsail project involve integrating the knowledge and experiences gained into the operations of each club. Instructor training sessions are planned, along with the production of video materials that will be available not only to all participants but also to the broader public. Special emphasis will be placed on promoting inclusive sailing and environmental responsibility.
For the Ada Sailing Club, participation in this project represents a significant step toward improving its educational program and expanding inclusive and sustainable sports. We look forward to further collaboration with our partners and are focused on applying the acquired knowledge in daily practice, as well as contributing to the project through the rich experience gained on the waters of Serbia, and across Europe.
Follow the SIESsail project, as together we are building the future of sustainable sailing!
